Skin and Hair care for swimmers - recommendations needed

Do you know that I am a competitive swimmer?
Currently, I practice outdoor, 3-times per week.
While  swimming offers many physical and mental health benefits, chlorine and other chemicals in the pool water are unfortunately not particularly therapeutic for my skin and hair. So I am always on the search for products that protect my skin against dryness and irritation, and my hair from discoloration and becoming brittle.

Do you have any hair or skin care tips for swimmers?

In order to maintain an healthy, happy skin and hair, I am interested in reviewing moisturizing lotion that are unscented/fragrance free,  gentle non-comedogenic (no foam, detergent free), hypoallergenic, and preferably with antioxidants such as vitamin C and E. I am also interested in reviewing chlorine-neutralizing soap and shampoo products formulated specifically for swimmers. Organic and vegan brands welcome.

  1. I don’t have any product recommendations but I’ve heard that drenching your hair in water before getting into the chlorine will protect it a little better. Sorry I couldn’t be any help!

  3. I've heard great things about Macademia Professional Endless Summer Sun & Surf Shampoo from my swimmers friends. I don't know if it meets you criteria of what your looking for in a product.

  5. Keeping my hair healthy is a struggle for me too. I normally just resort to using a bunch of leave in conditioner, though I don't typically deal with chlorine damage on a regular basis.

  6. I wish I had some guaranteed tips to share. I used to swim a lot too. I found that lake swimming was fantastic for my hair. It always felt so soft afterward, but swimming in a pool would make my hair so gross. Weekly argan oil hair masks should help.

  7. Keeping your hair healthy while being in the pool that much can be pretty unhealthy. I wish I could provide you with some hair tips that would be useful to you, but I would imagine a moisturizing color protectant would be essential.

  8. I've been a pool swimmer most of my life! And I struggle with skin and hair issues also. This was years ago, because about 14 years ago I switch to swimming in open waters, where the challenges are different. I'm a bit off the market of swimmer friendly products, so if you get some to review, I'll be more than happy to learn about those!

  10. I know my kids are in the pool all summer long and what typically works best for us is using plenty of moisturizer after getting out of the pool. Also, before getting in the pool I always put conditioner in my daughter's hair and then wash it out when she gets out of the pool.

  11. I'm not a swimmer, but maybe you could do a treatment that will protect your hair, like botox or keratin treatment where the mask is covering the hair and it stays protected for like 2 months, it creates a layer that protects your hair from damaging.
